Building a Website – #4 Optimize your html pages
Hello ePers, it’s been 5 days since I last posted a new article. I have been busy throughout the weekend. My two sons was on a tennis tournament and I was monitoring their every game, hence I couldn’t concentrate on blogging. Anyway, they emerge champions and that has more than enough replaced every bit of exhaustion I felt during the weekend.
Today, I shall cover the last part of optimizing your web pages for search engines so that you can earn money online as soon as possible. Little snippets that will help you further down the road to a successful blog business and a website that will rank high in search engines. One that SE’s like and really wants in their listing.
Here we go.
The first part dealt with w3c standards, minimize page loading, staying away from flash, cross-browser markups, and resolving broken links. This second part will deal more on three very important aspect of web pages that search engines love to see.
1. Place Javascript and CSS on an external file
Whenever possible place scripts and stylesheets on a separate file. I said, as much as possible. There will be time that you will need to embed javascripts and styling. A good example of this is google adsense script. You don’t put google adsense in an external file but embed it into the html code.
2. Always create a search box for your site.
I know this somewhat intimedating for purely static web pages. That’s why at the onset I mentioned that, it would be good to use Wordpress to start blogging. However, if yours is a pure html, there is a way for you to have a search function. Google Custom Search is your kind of thing. Go to google adsense and create one for your website. there are a lot of things your able to do with it. A search box is an integral part of a good website for the simple reason that it gives customers a way to search what they are looking for. You get it now?
3. Create custom error pages.
Sometimes there will be urls in your site that will not work or invalid. Search engines does not like this occurring often in your site. They will think your site is not maintained anymore hence has little relevance. To avoid search engine from doing this, you have to create error pages. This pages will simply contain a message that says there is an error, and it would be helpful to place a link from this page to your home page, or a search box, and other links that you think might help the person arriving at this page to stay within your website rather than leave. This will go the same with error 500, which simply means, that there is an error connecting to a database. usually happens when your database access is incorrect.
There, these are just 8 things you can implement easily on your blog pages on How to optimize your website for search engines. I can assure you if you follow these simple steps, you will have a better web pages that search engines love and definitely will rank higher than most websites now on google rankings.
Until next time.
