I grew up with the benefit of Christian parents who made giving to God’s work a top priority. My mom regularly reminded my siblings and I that all the money on earth was God’s anyway, and that we are called to give him His tithes and our offerings as a way for us to participate in His ministry. To do otherwise—particularly with respect to tithing—would be to steal from Him.

It can be easy to get caught up in all the commercialism that comes along with Christmas these days,  and allow the focus of the day become more about us – instead of about Him (Jesus Christ).   For me, one thing that always gets me back into the celebratory mood is a reading of the Christmas story. Jesus life is the greatest story ever told, and when you think about how it all started with his birth in extremely humble surroundings, it’s even more amazing.
