Joey started life as Joey Tomato’s but since most of the dishes didn’t really have tomatoes in them, the name was changed to Joey Restaurants. Today, everyone just call it Joey. Joey restaurants are part of the Fuller family of restaurants. In addition to Joey, the Fuller family also owns Earl’s, Townhall, Satlik Steakhouse, 50% of Cactus Club Cafe and who knows how many other restaurant operations.

Motomachi Shokudo is a ramen restaurant located on Denman street, just one block from the famous Kintaro Tonkotsu Ramen House. It turns out that the owner of Kintaro also owns Motomachi. Christmas came early for residents of the Downtown Eastside as the Union Gospel Mission and Glowbal Restaurant Group got together to set a table for 2000. The event took place on Wednesday outside the UGM building on Princess Street between Hastings and Cordova. The menu featured hand-carved honey glazed ham, oven roasted beef strip loin with traditional festive gravy, buttered vegetables with fresh herbs, roasted-garlic mashed potatoes, fresh-baked buns, pasta and chocolate mousse tarts.

We decided to take a break from the normal Vietnamese noodle and try something different for this week’s Dot Com Pho. I ask for restaurant suggestions and Jasmin Norris said to go to Nando’s Chicken in Karrisdale because it was close to her and she’ll be able to join us.
