Last week we launched a contest on this site sponsored by Snubbr.com to give away a $25 Visa gift card. All you had to do to win was leave a comment with your favorite money saving tip – and the good folks at Snubbr would choose a winner.
After considering all our entries they have now picked a winner!
Congratulations to David – You have been chosen as the winner for your money saving tip! Read it here. David, the folks from Snubbr.com should be in contact soon.
Stay tuned for more contests in the near future!

A few weeks ago Lending Club launched a newly redesigned website that gave the site a cleaner look, and in my opinion made the site easier to navigate, and more of a pleasure to use. (Read my review of Lending Club )
As part of the redesign if you go to the site you’ll see on the homepage there is a background photo for the site that shows a beautiful landscape or other scene. To celebrate their launch Lending Club decided to host a contest to choose a few more background photos for the site. You could submit several of your photos in hopes of winning one of their prizes. What are the prizes? The grand prize is $1000, second place $500 and third is $300.

Last night I had the privilege of attending my first regular season Twins baseball game at their brand new stadium, Target Field. My wife agreed to go to the game because it’s my birthday this weekend, and while she is normally bored to tears by baseball, I can usually get her to attend at least 1 or 2 games a year.

When we took the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class a year or two ago we started saving up our 3-6 months of expenses as is recommended in baby step 3 of the 7 baby steps. Over time we got our emergency fund fully funded up to 6 months of expenses. With the economy tanking, having an uncertain job situation and now expecting our first child we felt more comfortable having an even larger emergency fund. So my wife and I kept building the account and now have a 9 month emergency fund saved up. That should be enough to cover all our expenses and then some for 9 or more months.
